Cybersecurity And Data Privacy

Cybersecurity And Data Privacy

What is more the difference between cybersecurity vs data privacy? Also, what is the process of these two terminologies?

Introduction About Cybersecurity Vs Data Privacy

Cybersecurity vs data privacy is a contentious issue. But it is paramount that we do not compromise the privacy of our personal data.

The cybersecurity vs data privacy debate is one that is currently ongoing. The data privacy side believes that there should be no transparency. Especially, in regards to our personal information

While the cybersecurity side believes that this data is necessary. In order to protect us and keep us safe from cyber attacks.

One thing that we cannot compromise on is the privacy of our personal data. Also, it is paramount to note that there are authorities that are responsible for the security.

So to understand more, let us discuss these two terms.

Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity is the protection of the following:

  • computer systems
  • Networks
  • Programs
  • Data

Keeping them protected from cyber attacks. These attacks are a potential threat to our everyday lives.

So it can come from many different sources. It includes individuals, terrorists, and states.

It has can take many forms, including:

Viruses and malware

The most common attack that takes place on a daily basis. These are done by criminals who want to steal information. Such as credit card details or login details for online accounts.

So this information is used in fraudulent purchases or identity theft.

Phishing

When an email is sent out to a large number of people. Also, it appears to be from a legitimate source.

However, the email contains a link that is actually malicious. It is a link by hackers to install malware onto the computer system of the recipient.

These emails often appear to be from banks or other financial institutions. So they can trick us into installing the malware.

Once we install it, the malware allows the hacker to access any sensitive information. Such as bank account numbers or even passwords to emails.

Therefore, we should not open any email or links that we are not familiar with. So we avoid any potential hackers accessing personal accounts.

Ransomware

A type of malicious software that infects a computer system. Even our network is restricted from accessing it.

But can also spread through infected media devices. Such as USB flash drives and CDs etc.

Moreover, sometimes these will encrypt files on your computer. So that you cannot access them until you pay a ransom.

It is in exchange for releasing control of the system back to them. This ransom will often use Bitcoin as a payment.

Which is an anonymous form of payment. Therefore, it is hard for authorities to trace it back to the criminals behind it.

What is Data Privacy?

Data privacy is all about protecting personal data from being used. Especially without consent.

So it includes protecting information about your personal life. Such as where you live, your telephone number and your date of birth, etc.

As well as information about your finances like your bank account details and credit card numbers etc.
